Sam Sheppert: The Outstanding Student in Leadership recipient.
Sam was born and raised in Vancouver, Washington where he attended Sarah J. Anderson Elementary, Eisenhower Elementary, Jason Lee Middle School, and Skyview High School. Sam loved participating in many different community sports programs when he was younger. Sam lettered in three sports his senior year: cross country, basketball, and track. Serving in the community is something Sam really enjoys. He is an Eagle Scout and participated in school government all four years at Skyview.
Sam will be attending Brigham Young University starting this summer. In addition to the Leadership award, Sam was awarded a Half-tuition scholarship to BYU and is graduating with Science, Math, and Technology honors.
Michaela Gaines: The Payton May Outstanding Transfer Student recipient.
Michaela was born in Portland, Oregon, but moved to Dallas, Texas when she was five years old. There she attended elementary, middle, and freshman year of high school. During the Covid-19 pandemic she and her family moved to Vancouver to be closer to her aging grandparents. She has attended Skyview since her sophomore year, and since then she has flourished. She started playing the trumpet in 6th grade and it has taken her far. Michaela has attended international honor bands, national honor bands, youth symphonies and many more. She has been apart of Skyview’s marching band and winter percussion team and has been at many football games and basket ball games in the pep band.
Michaela plans to attend George Fox University and major in Kinesiology and minor in Music. In addition to the Transfer Student scholarship, Michaela has been awarded a music scholarship and a merit scholarship from George Fox University.
Sicily Dickman: The Jennifer Frost Taylor Outstanding Student in the Arts recipient.
Sicily has been playing the violin since she was 5 years old and joined the high school orchestra when she was a freshman. Sicily has helped out at many events and even played in statewide orchestra. Sicily has also been dancing since she was little. She joined Columbia Dance in 2012 and then joined their ballet company in 2019. This has brought her many new opportunities such as performing at national events. Sicily has also been able to help start the INCLUDE program at Columbia Dance. INCLUDE stands for inspiring, with no challenges or limitations, the universality of dance experience. It allows kids with disabilities like Autism aspect Disorder or Down Syndrome to participate in a dance class that is designed to fit their needs. Sicily will be attending Brigham Young University in the fall.
Brock Blakley: The Outstanding Student in Academic Excellence recipient.
Brock was his class president as a junior and voted Executive Student Body President his senior year. As ASB president Brock focused on reinfusing tradition back into Skyview after COVID. Brock graduated in the top % of his class as well as playing varsity baseball, golf, and tennis teams. Brock participated in DECA and represented Skyview at the International DECA conference in his senior year. Away from school, Brock enjoys playing guitar along with earning money with his part time job at Royal Oaks Country Club as a bag-boy.
Brock will be attending Arizona State University’s Barrett Honors College. In addition to the Academic Excellence award, Brock earned a Presidential Scholar Award from Arizona State.
